For various reasons, we’ve been unable to get a proper episode of the podcast recorded and edited in March or April - so to fill in the gap, we’re putting out this special “Point One” issue, because we really wanted to get around to recommending and discussing Brian K Vaughan and Marcos Martin’s The Private Eye. Having done that, to pad out a bit more time we subjected ourselves to a SPECIAL CONTEST, courtesy of the quiz book Obsessed With Marvel, to determine once and for all which of the two of us knows more about Marvel Comics. Would noted Marvel expert James, or not a noted Marvel expert Seb, be the champion? LISTEN AND FIND OUT.

It’s a Brian Michael Bendis-fest for this month’s podcast, as we feature-review the first issue of Powers Bureau (or, if you will, Powers: The Bureau). In addition, in a slightly off-format capsule reviews section James compares and contrasts Bendis’ All-New X-Men and Uncanny X-Men, while Seb does the same with Scott Snyder’s Batman and Grant Morrison’s Batman Inc. We also dust off John Byrne’s Spectacular She-Hulk #1 from 1989, and count down our top five Superhero Day Jobs. Why aren’t there any superheroes who double as comics blogger/podcasters, anyway?

Excitingness! as James (30) and Seb (30) review Kieron Gillen (37) and Jamie McKelvie (12)’s Young Avengers #1. We also count down our top five Younger Versions Of Existing Superheroes, run through some capsule reviews including Mara, Chew and Hellblazer, and turn our Dusting Off gaze on the first issue of Grant Morrison’s New X-Men. You can probably stop doing that, now.

‘Tis the season for podcasts, in no defensible way. But we’ve got one to release, so here it is!

This episode, we move outside the tedious superhero mainstream for a change, with a feature review of Marc Ellerby’s newly-released Ellerbisms collection. We’ll also briefly discuss our reactions to the Marvel Now! titles we’ve read in the last month, having given the opening two something of a hammering in November, and this month’s top five is a top ten as we count down our top ten Christmas gifts for comic creators. And last, but not least, we Dust Off the first issue of 2003’s superhero comedy series, Formerly Known as the Justice League, recalling more upbeat times before the cast was variously raped and killed and turned evil, or some combination of the three. HAPPY CHRISTMAS EVERYONE!

You thought ep three was late? Ha, you ain’t seen nothing yet. To be fair, we did warn you that James was disappearing to New York for most of October, which is more warning than the poor suckers waiting for issue #2 of Uncanny Avengers got.

This episode, we review Marvel’s A+X #1 in depth, with capsule reviews including UA #1, Simpsons Comics One Shot: Maggie, and Superman #13. We also count down our top five thinly-veiled pastiches of Superman, and Dust Off Uncanny X-Men issues #141 and #142, better known as the enduring classic “Days of Future Past”.

Sauntering into view a couple of weeks late in the louche manner of a DC New 52 issue, it’s episode three of the Alternate Cover Comics Podcast! And this month, to celebrate a certain wall-crawler’s 50th birthday, it’s a Spider-Man special!

We’re looking at the anniversary issue of Amazing Spider-Man, plus a round-up of the celebratory Spider-Men series. Our capsule reviews include a brief word on Dredd 3D, while we also run down our Top Five Spider-Men and then do a special spider-themed Dusting Off segment.

Our second episode! And, in the style of Marvel’s finest ongoing series, that leaves us only three more until it’s time to renumber again. How time flies.

In episode 2, we start off with a double-header of Sean Murphy’s Punk Rock Jesus #1 and Alan Martin/Jim Mahfood’s Everbody Loves Tank Girl #1, run down our Top 5 Fictional Nations Competing in the Olympics (ooh, topical!) and our dusting off review covers New Teen Titans #2 by Marv Wolfman and George Perez.

All mistakes are, of course, deliberate.

In the grand tradition of your favourite adventure periodicals, James and Seb have relaunched their podcast with a new name, new numbering, and new core concept. To critical and commercial indifference.

This episode: a feature review of LoEG: Century 2009, capsule reviews, Top 5 Bad Ideas in Comics, and a Dusting Off Review of Kevin Smith and Joe Quesada’s Daredevil #1 from 1998.

James would like to make it clear that he is now aware that Daredevil #1 was supposed to be #381, not #485, and that at one point he accidentally says that the “Heroes Reborn” comics were quite good, when he actually means “Heroes Return”. Any other mistakes are deliberate.
